Give your blooms a boost with these floral care tips!
Prep
When you receive a bouquet from Snaps & Stems, most of the prep work is already done for you! Lower leaves and thorns are removed, stems are cut, and guard petals (the outer layer protecting the flower) are removed.
All you or your gift recipient will need to do is prepare a clean vase:
- Dissolve flower food in warm water.
- Fill the vase with at least 4 inches of cool water.
- Place stems in the vase and check for any leaves or petals on or below the waterline (this creates bacteria!). If there are, you'll want to remove them.
Control
Flowers are delicate and don't like drastic changes to their environment (relatable). Keep your blooms out of direct sunlight, heat, and drafts.
Flowers also don't like ethylene gas, so keep your bouquet away from fresh fruits and veggies.
Refresh
Change the water in your vase every 2-3 days (or when the water starts looking cloudy, whichever happens first). New water also means a new packet of flower food!
It's also a good rule of thumb to trim the stems with every vase refresh. Trim each stem about an inch and make cuts at an angle (it's better for water absorption!). Put flowers in water right away to minimize air bubbles forming in the stems.
Edit
Yes, really! Usually after 5-7 days you'll want to edit. Remove any spent flowers, dying leaves, and wilting petals. You can even split your arrangement into smaller vessels or bud vases to create a whole new design!
